Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Star Sports Complex in the Malir district, a state-of-the-art facility covering 20 acres, completed under the Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project. During the inauguration, the Mayor emphasized the potential of young leadership to drive the country’s improvement and announced that three more sports complexes would soon be handed over to the citizens of Karachi.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, speaking to the media after the inauguration, highlighted the transformation of the complex’s location from a barren area littered with dirt and garbage to a modern sports facility. The complex, designed to be the best sports center for the Malir district, includes a football ground, cricket ground, volleyball court, practice pitch, cafeteria, and walking track. It is part of a broader initiative to promote positive activities and improve public spaces in the city.
Mayor Wahab remarked that those skeptical of progress in Karachi should visit the new complex. He referenced the recent inauguration of the Bilquees Edhi Park at Kharadar in Lyari and an international-style ground at Ghizri. He affirmed the commitment of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to serve Karachi under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto, highlighting the party’s focus on promoting positive activities and public service.
The Star Sports Complex is dedicated to Haji Murtaza Baloch, a PPP leader who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Wahab acknowledged the local community’s support for the project and the ongoing efforts to protect public assets, expressing optimism for the future.
Addressing a question about internal party dynamics, Mayor Wahab clarified that there are no differences between Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari, emphasizing the unity and continuity of the People’s Party. He reiterated the party’s call for a level playing field and transparent elections, underlining its longstanding commitment to public service.
Mayor Wahab also praised the Sindh government for its achievements, including generating 3200 megawatts of electricity from Thar coal and bringing a social revolution to Thar. He concluded by stating the city’s commitment to working across all 246 Union Councils of Karachi without discrimination, prioritizing better service to citizens.
