Islamabad: Decisions reached during two days of negotiations with the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance were finalized today. The session, chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, led to the establishment of a Joint Monitoring Committee comprising Customs Authorities and Goods Transporters. The meeting explored measures to address issues faced by transporters in dealing with Customs Authorities. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwaar, participating via video link, assured transporters of his Ministry’s cooperation.

According to Press Information Department, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan directed authorities to address complaints about weigh stations promptly. He announced the establishment of state-of-the-art weigh stations on all motorways. The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance commended the minister’s efforts. Senior officials of the Federal Board of Revenue presented recommendations on proposals submitted by transporters. Discussions also included proposals concerning the National Highway Authority and Motorway Police, among other issues. Transporters expressed support for the minister’s policy on the axle-load issue, calling for a uniform policy. The meeting included discussions between senior officials of the Ministry of Petroleum and transporter representatives.

The consultative meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary for Communications, Chairman NHA, Inspector General Motorway Police, and senior officers from relevant departments. Representing the Goods Transporters, Malik Shehzad Awan, Nasir Jafri, Owais Chaudhry, Qamar-uz-Zaman, Bakhtawar Khan, Shabar Malik, and other office-bearers shared their views on the issues and proposals.
