Islamabad: Crime rates in Islamabad have fallen sharply during the first four months of 2026, with a 36% overall decrease compared to the same period in 2025. This decline, attributed to enhanced policing strategies, includes a 50% reduction in crime during April alone.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, significant actions against criminal activities have resulted in this historic reduction. The police have arrested 447 individuals from 192 criminal gangs, recovering stolen property valued at over Rs. 120 million.
Robbery incidents have seen a marked decline, with 98 fewer cases reported than last year. Shop robberies decreased by 33 cases, motorcycle snatching incidents fell from 129 to 92, and street robbery and mobile phone snatching decreased by 185 cases. Car theft saw a substantial decline from 151 to 34 cases, and motorcycle theft incidents dropped by 359 cases.
During this period, the police quickly resolved more than eight high-profile cases, including the murder of businessman Mian Aamir and several other severe crimes. Over 400 offenders with criminal records were detained, and more than 685 search operations were conducted to maintain law and order.
In efforts to improve public relations, the Islamabad Police organized over 400 open courts to address citizen complaints, ensuring swift and effective responses. The FIR registration rate on the “Pucar-15” helpline also improved, reflecting increased public trust. The Islamabad Police continue to focus on ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law, employing all available resources to protect citizens and maintain a secure environment.
