ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police’s Anti-Vehicle Lifting Unit (AVLU) announced the recovery of stolen vehicles valued at Rs. 1.63 billion during the first eight months of 2026, with 38 individuals arrested in connection with vehicle theft.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the AVLU’s operations led to the recovery of 50 vehicles, including 29 stolen this year and 21 from previous years. The recoveries were achieved through meticulous investigation and the deployment of advanced technical resources. The unit also dismantled six car-lifting gangs, arresting 14 of their members, and apprehended eight proclaimed offenders and other criminals with prior records.

In addition to its focus on vehicle theft, AVLU teams conducted operations targeting drug dealers and illegal weapon holders. These efforts resulted in the confiscation of significant quantities of drugs, including ice and hashish, and the seizure of pistols and ammunition from those possessing illegal firearms.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Suleman Zafar emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting citizens’ assets, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat organized vehicle theft and other criminal activities with all available resources.
