GPI Unveils Project to Transform Barren Land Into Cultivable Areas Across Pakistan

Islamabad: The Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) has embarked on a significant project to convert millions of acres of barren land into fertile, cultivable land nationwide. The initiative aims to bolster agricultural self-sufficiency, ensure sustainable development, and enhance food security.

According to Radio Pakistan, the project has garnered support from Pakistanis abroad, who are actively contributing to the nation’s agricultural development. Ghulam Mustafa, Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Green Farm, highlighted the project’s long-term potential, describing it as a rare and sustainable opportunity, especially notable for its availability on non-private land.

Local farmer Muhammad Abdullah Liaqat reported that under the GPI, seventeen thousand acres of land have been cultivated, boosting agricultural output and creating local employment opportunities. He noted the introduction of modern agricultural facilities, including agri-malls that consolidate the availability of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, thereby streamlining farming operations.

Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, President of the Farmers’ Union, emphasized the project’s importance in the context of Pakistan’s growing population. He stated that the initiative is essential for encouraging traditional farmers to adopt modern agricultural machinery and techniques, facilitating their transition to more efficient farming practices. He mentioned the implementation of drip irrigation, pivot, and sprinkler systems to optimize water usage and enhance sustainability.
