Karachi, Murtaza Solangi, the Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, today asserted the government’s commitment to taking legal measures against the forced dismissal of journalists and media workers. His statement comes as a response to the growing concerns over the job security of media professionals in the country.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Solangi, speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, declared that the government finds the forced sacking of journalists unacceptable. He emphasized the need for legal protections for media workers, underscoring the government’s responsibility in this regard.
The Minister also mentioned his discussions with the Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on this issue. Furthermore, Solangi plans to raise this matter with the Chairperson of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting during the Committee’s upcoming meeting on Friday.
This move by the government signals a proactive approach to safeguarding the rights and job security of media personnel in Pakistan. The emphasis on constitutional and legal protections for journalists and media workers reflects the administration’s recognition of the critical role played by the media in maintaining a healthy and informed society.
The government’s stance on this issue is particularly significant in the context of increasing global concerns regarding press freedom and the rights of journalists. By committing to legal action against unjust dismissals, the government is not only upholding the rule of law but also reinforcing its commitment to the principles of free and independent journalism.
