KARACHI: First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari inaugurated Pakistan’s first dedicated residential facility for children with autism in Karachi on Monday. Established under the Centre for Autism Rehabilitation and Training, Sindh (C-ARTS), this facility aims to provide comprehensive care, education, and rehabilitation for children with autism, marking a significant step forward in the country’s support for affected families.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the residential facility in Korangi represents a commitment to providing quality diagnosis, education, and life-skills training for children with autism. The inauguration ceremony, attended by government officials, autism specialists, and civil society members, highlighted the government’s dedication to creating a supportive environment for children with autism.

The newly inaugurated facility will cater to approximately 250 children, offering residential care, therapeutic interventions, and educational programs. C-ARTS officials noted that the facility aims to provide respite care for children with severe behavioral challenges and long-term care for those without adequate family support.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized the expansion of the C-ARTS network, with new centers under construction across Sindh. The initiative also includes the development of inclusive parks designed for children of all abilities to play together, promoting understanding and empathy within the community.

The inauguration is seen as a transformative step in autism care in Pakistan, setting a new benchmark for services and fostering an inclusive society. The Sindh Government’s commitment to expanding services and partnerships with other regions highlights a broader vision for equitable access to autism care across the country.
