Finance Minister Emphasizes Climate Resilience and Green Transition at Global Meeting

Washington, D.C.: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, participated in the 15th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (CFMCA) during the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026. The meeting focused on “Climate Action as an Engine of Growth, Jobs and Competitiveness.”

According to Press Information Department, Senator Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s progress in climate resilience. He contrasted the country’s reliance on international support during the 2022 floods with its ability to self-fund relief efforts in 2025, attributing this shift to enhanced fiscal buffers.

The minister detailed Pakistan’s initiatives to green its financial landscape, including the issuance of Green Taxonomy Guidelines by the State Bank of Pakistan. He noted Pakistan’s current solar capacity at about 8,000 MW and its goal to achieve 90 percent energy sourcing from renewables within a decade.

Senator Aurangzeb also acknowledged the vital role of international partners in supporting Pakistan’s climate finance efforts, particularly citing the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Facility and the World Bank Group’s Country Partnership Framework.
