New Delhi, Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent Indian farmer leader, has declared that the ongoing farmers’ protest at the border points of Punjab and Haryana will persist until their demands are acknowledged and fulfilled.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan Mukti Morcha under the ‘Delhi Chalo’ banner, aims to compel the Modi government to address their concerns, including the provision of a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP). Since February 13, after being halted by Indian forces, the farmers from Punjab have established camps at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points, marking the beginning of their prolonged agitation towards Delhi.
Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized that the protest, rooted in the interests of farmers and agricultural laborers, will remain peaceful and continue unaffected by the imposition of the model code of conduct due to the upcoming general elections. He expressed frustration over the government’s refusal to allow the farmers to proceed to Delhi with their tractor-trolleys to press for their demands. “Why are we not being allowed to go to Delhi in support of our demands,” he questioned, highlighting the peaceful nature of their demonstration.
The protest has seen participation from various groups of farmers and farm laborers from areas such as Amritsar, Jandiala, and Beas, who have joined the ranks at the border points in solidarity with the cause.
