Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Ondrej Dostál, a member of the European Parliament, at Parliament House on Monday to discuss the importance of Pakistan-European Union relations and a range of regional and global issues. Sadiq emphasized the significance of strengthening parliamentary ties and exploring opportunities for mutual cooperation between Pakistan and the EU.

According to the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sadiq highlighted the challenges posed by climate change, pointing out Pakistan’s vulnerability despite its minimal contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. He referenced the Green Parliament initiative as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection and renewable energy. The Speaker also noted legislative progress and reforms in the National Assembly, including initiatives like the Women Parliamentary Caucus and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Secretariat.

In the meeting, Sadiq acknowledged development initiatives in Punjab, particularly in education and vocational training. He emphasized the potential for collaboration in education and workforce development between Pakistan and the EU. Furthermore, Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, citing efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States and emphasizing the country’s preference for dialogue and diplomacy.

Dostál commended Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and its role in parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation. He stressed the importance of maintaining friendly and respectful relations between Pakistan and the European Union.
