Defence Minister Praises Pakistan’s Role in Middle East Ceasefire

Islamabad: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has hailed Pakistan’s pivotal role in securing a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, marking it as a significant moment of pride and honor in the nation’s history. He emphasized that this diplomatic achievement has elevated Pakistan’s standing on the global stage, receiving commendations from the European Union, Muslim countries, and other friendly nations.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Defence Minister expressed optimism about the prospects of peace, predicting the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a subsequent decrease in oil prices. During the discussion, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability and security, advocating for a unified voice in support of the country’s peace efforts. He also called on the opposition to reconsider their protest plans ahead of scheduled talks in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to brief the National Assembly on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, as per the Law Minister’s announcement. The session saw various leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Mehmood Khan Achakzai, express their support for the government’s peace initiatives. Ali Muhammad Khan and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf both highlighted the importance of unity and collective efforts in facing regional challenges.

Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal termed the ceasefire a major diplomatic success, urging the internal stabilization to sustain external achievements. Gohar Ali Khan, welcoming the truce, expressed hope for long-lasting peace in the Middle East and announced the postponement of an opposition rally in light of Pakistan’s role in the peace process.

Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh, Minister for the Board of Investment, expressed confidence in the economic benefits of peace, predicting a decrease in petroleum prices and increased investment in Pakistan. He suggested that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, with a nomination from US President Donald Trump.

The discussion included contributions from several other lawmakers, and the session concluded with the prorogation of the House.
