RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, jointly inaugurated the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre in Rawalpindi. The facility is expected to play a significant role in advancing Pakistan’s technological landscape and digital future.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister, during the inaugural ceremony, praised the establishment of the Data Centre as a significant accomplishment. He highlighted the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved in the project. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the project’s successful completion as a demonstration of Pakistan’s capability to overcome challenges with determination and unity.

The Prime Minister also referenced Marka-e-Haq, describing it as a historical milestone that underscores the importance of determination in achieving progress. He stressed the importance of aligning state institutions with the newly established facility to maximize its capabilities and support Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.

Acknowledging the contributions of ZTE, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, and other stakeholders, Prime Minister Sharif noted that the Data Centre, with a capacity of 8.5 megawatts, will be replicated in Karachi and Lahore. This expansion aims to further bolster the nation’s digital framework.

Sky47, recognized as Pakistan’s largest carrier-neutral and AI-ready digital infrastructure platform, is designed to meet global standards. It offers scalable, high-performance computing infrastructure to support demanding artificial intelligence workloads. The facility features sovereign cloud architecture and enterprise-grade security to ensure the protection of critical data within Pakistan’s borders.

The Data Centre is anticipated to reinforce Pakistan’s digital sovereignty, enhance national resilience, and drive national digital transformation, reflecting the country’s commitment to developing world-class digital infrastructure to meet future technological demands.
