Dr. Pfau, renowned for her tireless work and commitment, passed away in Karachi in 2017. Her contributions significantly contributed to the control of leprosy in the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ruth Pfau was born on September 9, 1929, in Leipzig, Germany. She moved to Pakistan in 1961 as a German Catholic nun and physician, where she focused her efforts on combating leprosy, a disease that was widespread at the time. Her dedication earned her several prestigious awards from the Pakistani government, including the Hilal-i-Pakistan, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, and the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam. Dr. Pfau’s legacy continues to inspire many as she is remembered today for her humanitarian work and deep compassion for the people of Pakistan.
