Lahore: The Punjab Police have taken a significant step toward enhancing crime control in the region following the approval of the Crime Control Department (CCD) Ordinance. An important meeting, chaired by Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, was convened at the Central Police Office to discuss the activation of the CCD.
Senior officials including Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chattha, Additional IG Welfare and Finance, and several DIGs, SSPs, and other senior officers were present. CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, along with regional and district police officers, participated via video link.
The meeting focused on the implementation strategy for the CCD, covering human resources, logistics, and administrative aspects. Additional IG Chattha provided a comprehensive briefing on the department’s objectives, emphasizing the selection of experienced officers to target serious criminal activities.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar expressed optimism about the department’s potential, despite the challenges ahead. RPOs and DPOs have begun allocating necessary resources, and recruitment for 4,000 personnel is underway. The setup will be supported by a criminal database and advanced monitoring systems.
The CCD will tackle major crimes, including drug trafficking, violent crimes, and organized crime. It aims to enhance coordination with other police units to address broader issues such as terrorism and public safety.
