Congress Calls for Urgent All-Party Talks on Jammu and Kashmir Situation

Jammu: Congress IIOJK president Tariq Hameed Karra has called for an all-party meeting to address what he terms as a ‘deteriorating’ situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), challenging the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) claims of normalcy following the abrogation of Article 370.

Speaking at the Congress office in Jammu, Karra pointed to an increase in violent incidents, particularly in the Jammu region, as evidence of expanding militancy beyond the Kashmir valley. He argued that this development counters the BJP’s narrative of restored peace in the area.

Karra’s comments come in the wake of a significant cordon and search operation by Indian forces in the dense forests of Hiranagar, Kathua district. According to the Kashmir Media Service, Karra criticized the portrayal at both local and international levels that conditions have improved since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

He questioned the government’s assertion of normalcy, asking why militancy appears to have intensified in Jammu, a region previously declared free of such threats by former administrations. Karra accused the BJP of prioritizing politics over addressing the security challenges facing the region.

The Congress leader’s remarks underscore ongoing concerns about stability in IIOJK and highlight the need for a broader political dialogue to address security issues in the region.
