Quetta: Chief Minister Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, has announced a series of stringent measures aimed at reforming civil service operations in the province. Amid concerns over governance and employee conduct, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of aligning with the state’s narrative to counter anti-state elements.
In a high-level meeting with departmental secretaries, Mr. Bugti stressed the need for amendments in the civil servant act. The proposed changes would allow for the forced retirement of officers deemed inactive, signaling a move towards greater accountability in public service.
The Chief Minister highlighted his intention to leverage technology for better governance. With the support of the IT department, he plans to personally oversee employee attendance, with a commitment to taking strict action if performance targets are not met.
Additionally, the meeting uncovered that 428 employees across 28 departments were holding dual jobs, a violation of existing regulations. In response, Mr. Bugti ordered immediate action, including the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs) and proceedings under the Balochistan Employees Disciplinary Action (BEDA) Act.
These developments underscore the provincial government’s focus on enhancing administrative efficiency and rooting out practices that undermine public trust.
