Islamabad: In a significant move to boost affordable housing, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif presided over a ceremony distributing the first installment of loans under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program. This initiative, aimed at providing zero-interest loans for housing, marks a major step towards fulfilling the government’s commitment to accessible housing solutions.
According to Punjab Portal, the event was attended by President PML-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, alongside other prominent officials. During her address, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure that every citizen in Punjab could afford a home. The program promises to distribute loans to 5 lakh applicants, aiming to construct five lakh houses over the next five years.
The “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative, a Rs. 700 billion project, is designed to cater specifically to landowners of small plots, offering loans up to Rs. 15 lakhs with repayments stretched over nine years without any interest. The Chief Minister emphasized the simplicity of the loan acquisition process, which now requires just an identity card and ownership papers, reflecting the government’s intention to streamline access to necessary financial support.
Furthermore, the ceremony underscored the government’s broader economic vision, which includes significant reductions in inflation and advancements in various developmental projects. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif reassured that these measures aim to propel the country towards economic stability and growth, despite challenges posed by political unrest in certain sectors.
The event also served as a platform for the Chief Minister to address criticisms and confrontations, advocating for peace and progress over division. She reiterated the administration’s dedication to public welfare, pointing to the success of recent health and educational initiatives as proof of their commitment to improving the lives of Pakistani citizens.
