Islamabad: Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, H.E. Paulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez, met with Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani at his residence in the Ministers’ Enclave, Islamabad. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations, with an emphasis on trade, investment, and parliamentary collaboration.
According to Press Information Department, Chairman Senate Gilani underscored the importance Pakistan places on its relationship with Portugal, highlighting areas such as trade, agriculture, IT, education, culture, and the blue economy as key sectors for potential cooperation. He invited Portuguese companies to explore Pakistan’s growing economic landscape and consider investment opportunities.
Gilani emphasized the significance of the Inter-parliamentary Speaker’s Conference as a platform for promoting regional peace, security, and development. He also highlighted the role of the Pakistani community in Portugal, noting its contribution as a bridge between the two countries and stressing the importance of cooperation in labor and human resource development.
Expressing optimism about the Agreement on Labour Mobility Partnership, Gilani mentioned its potential to enhance cooperation in labor mobility. He also called for increased academic collaboration between Pakistani and Portuguese universities through exchanges and joint research initiatives.
Acknowledging Portugal’s support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, Gilani expressed hope for continued high-level exchanges and bilateral consultations to deepen relations. Ambassador Dominguez conveyed Portugal’s interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan, particularly in trade and economic cooperation.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to enhancing engagement and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation to reinforce Pakistan-Portugal relations.
