Ceasefire Between United States and Iran Remains Intact, Says Pakistani Prime Minister

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran continues to hold, with ongoing efforts to address remaining challenges and ensure lasting peace in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, during a meeting of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the significant diplomatic achievement, noting that it was the first direct engagement between the United States and Iran in 47 years. He attributed this breakthrough to Pakistan’s dedicated diplomatic efforts and extended gratitude to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump for their participation in the ceasefire and for dispatching high-level delegations to Pakistan for discussions.

The Prime Minister revealed that the U.S. delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, and the Iranian delegation, headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, engaged in intensive talks in Islamabad for a continuous 21-hour period, a notable event in recent diplomatic history.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the appreciation expressed by both parties for Pakistan’s role in mediating the Islamabad Talks, acknowledging the country’s commitment to promoting global peace. He commended Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with their teams, for their relentless efforts in facilitating the ceasefire and fostering dialogue between the two nations.

In a show of support, the cabinet unanimously passed a resolution praising Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability. The resolution recognized the leadership of Prime Minister Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Dar, and Field Marshal Munir in orchestrating the historic peace talks and ending a deadlock that had persisted for nearly half a century. It also underscored Pakistan’s enduring legacy in the annals of global peace efforts, expressing hope for the continued success of these diplomatic initiatives.
