Islamabad: Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran have received commendation from Canada, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney praised Islamabad’s constructive involvement in recent negotiations. The discussions took place following a temporary ceasefire between the two nations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the commendation was conveyed during a telephone conversation between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. Carney lauded Pakistan’s role in bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table, highlighting the significance of Islamabad’s diplomatic intervention.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Canada’s support and emphasized the importance of the US-Iran engagement as a step towards de-escalation. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to encouraging both parties to maintain the ceasefire and pursue substantive dialogue for regional peace and stability.
In addition to discussing US-Iran relations, the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and expressed a mutual interest in enhancing collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, clean energy, and mining. They also discussed the potential for increased Canadian investment in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Sharif extended an invitation to Prime Minister Carney to visit Pakistan officially. Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on matters of mutual interest.
