British High Commissioner and Federal Minister Discuss Green Compact Framework


Islamabad: British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms. Jane Marriott, met with Dr. Musadik Malik, the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, in Islamabad to discuss the Green Compact, a £35 million bilateral initiative aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s climate resilience.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting concentrated on the implementation and future direction of the Green Compact. Ms. Marriott presented the Action Plan for the framework, outlining key priorities and collaboration areas. Dr. Malik stressed that the Compact’s goal should be to create initiatives that provide significant outcomes for Pakistanis.



Dr. Malik also briefed Ms. Marriott on the progress towards establishing a Green University in Islamabad, mentioning ongoing discussions with international partners and stakeholders from the Arctic Circle initiative. He highlighted the creation of a Green Tech Hub at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs in green technologies. The Minister emphasized the importance of facilitating youth involvement in research and innovation to address environmental challenges.



Ms. Marriott informed Dr. Malik about the UK’s youth entrepreneurship programs and joint projects with the British High Commission in Pakistan, focusing on climate resilience and green solutions. The meeting also addressed the enhancement of early warning systems and preparedness for climate-related disasters.
