Quetta: The final Provincial Steering Committee meeting on the Rule of Law Roadmap in Balochistan was successfully held in Quetta, bringing together key stakeholders from the government of Balochistan, the European Union (EU), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The meeting aimed to assess the progress of justice sector reforms supported by the EU-funded ‘Deliver Justice Project.’
According to United Nations Pakistan, the meeting was chaired by Mr. Hamza Shafqaat, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department. The discussion centered on the achievements since the previous meeting and setting priorities for enhanced citizen-centric justice delivery. Notable progress includes the enactment of new criminal justice laws, the operationalization of the Prison Management Information System, and the establishment of Smart Police Stations and Court Annexed Mediation Centers.
Participants acknowledged the EU’s ongoing support for rule of law reforms as essential for stability and good governance in Balochistan. Mr. Jeroen Willems of the EU Delegation to Pakistan and Mr. Troels Vester of UNODC emphasized the significance of these developments in strengthening justice sector institutions. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue support for justice reforms under a new program expected in August 2026.
