Guwahati, The brutal rape and murder of a 28-year-old daily wage worker in Assam has intensified concerns over women’s safety in the region. This incident occurs within a broader national context of rising alarm regarding violence against women in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the woman, initially reported missing, was found dead in a brick kiln’s smoke channel in Darrang, where she was employed. Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal reported that the victim, who originated from Kokrajhar district, disappeared on March 7 and was discovered the following day. An immediate investigation indicated that she had been sexually assaulted and killed. The woman had been living with her husband near the workplace at the time of her disappearance.

In a separate event, a couple was found slain in Odisha’s Gochhapada area, within Kandhamal district. Identified as Dahira and Batasi Kanhar, their deaths have been attributed to Maoist accusations of them acting as police informers.
