Islamabad: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Barrick Chairman John L. Thornton met to discuss the progress and future steps of the Reko Diq Copper-Gold Project. Both parties agreed to maintain close coordination to advance the project, one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold projects.
According to Press Information Department, during the meeting, Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized the strategic importance of the Reko Diq project for Pakistan’s economic growth and the development of its mineral sector. He described the project as a flagship national initiative that is crucial for attracting investment, creating jobs, and promoting socio-economic development in Balochistan.
John L. Thornton expressed Barrick’s commitment to the project and acknowledged the Government of Pakistan’s ongoing support. Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining close coordination to achieve significant development milestones.
Reko Diq is a collaborative effort, with ownership shared between Barrick at 50%, three federal state-owned enterprises at 25%, and the Government of Balochistan also at 25%. This partnership framework is designed to facilitate the project’s development.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to collaboration, reinforcing the dedication of both parties to the successful development of the Reko Diq project.
