Islamabad: Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Member of the National Assembly and President of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), convened a meeting with representatives from Justice Project Pakistan at the Parliament House to discuss potential collaborations aimed at addressing drug abuse and narcotics-related offenses among youth. The talks centered on developing strategies that prioritize prevention, rehabilitation, and human rights-based drug policy reforms over punitive measures.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, President Iftikhar emphasized the need to protect young individuals from the increasing threat of drugs and reiterated YPF’s commitment to implementing evidence-based policies. These policies aim to treat addiction as a medical issue requiring support and rehabilitation, ensuring that young drug users have access to healthcare and freedom from discrimination.

Justice Project Pakistan representatives highlighted their ongoing efforts to provide legal aid to prisoners charged with narcotics offenses, advocate for fair trials, and promote legislative reforms that align Pakistan’s drug laws with international human rights standards. Both organizations agreed to continue discussions and explore further collaboration on initiatives including effective legislation, parliamentary briefings, awareness campaigns, and policy advocacy aligned with national priorities.
