US State Department Responds to Alleged Assassination Plot Against Sikh Leader

Washington, The US State Department has affirmed its serious approach towards the alleged plot by an Indian official to assassinate Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. This statement was made by the Department’s Spokesperson, Mathew Miller, in response to inquiries about the incident.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during his daily press briefing, Miller addressed a question regarding the case. He stated, “I also spoke to this yesterday and I said I wouldn’t comment on the underlying substance, because it is an ongoing law enforcement matter. It would be inappropriate for me to do so when DOJ (Department of Justice) is presenting a case in court. But I also made clear that we have noted at the most senior levels of this government, the Secretary of State has raised this directly with his foreign counterpart that we take this issue very seriously. They told us they would conduct an investigation. They have publicly announced an investigation and now we’ll wait to see the results of the investigation, but it’s something we take very seriously.”

Miller also mentioned that the US has requested the Indian government’s cooperation in a Canadian investigation into the murder of another Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This comment suggests a broader context of concerns regarding the safety of Sikh leaders internationally and the US’s involvement in addressing these issues.
