US Official Discusses Plot to Assassinate Sikh Leader with Indian Authorities

Washington, Jon Finer, the White House Deputy National Security Adviser, led a US delegation to New Delhi to discuss the recently uncovered plot to assassinate Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on US soil.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the White House released a statement detailing Mr. Finer’s visit. The statement highlighted that Mr. Finer acknowledged the Indian government’s establishment of a Committee of Enquiry to investigate the assassination plot and emphasized the importance of holding accountable any individuals found responsible for this lethal plotting in the United States.

The US Justice Department recently reported that an Indian government official directed an unsuccessful attempt to murder Pannun, a dual citizen of America and Canada. The department has charged an individual accused of orchestrating the attempted assassination.

This revelation follows a separate incident two months prior, where Canadian authorities announced the involvement of Indian government agents in the murder of another Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Surrey, British Columbia, in June.

The discussions between US and Indian officials signify a crucial development in the investigation of these plots and underline the international complexities surrounding the security of Sikh leaders in North America.
