U.S. Official’s Visit to Pakistan Focuses on Minerals and Economic Ties

Islamabad: Eric Meyer, a senior official from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, conducted a visit to Islamabad on April 8 and 9. The purpose of his visit was to advance U.S. interests in Pakistan’s critical minerals sector and to strengthen both economic and security ties between the two countries.

During the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, Meyer emphasized support for investment in Pakistan’s minerals sector. He noted the strategic priority of securing diverse and reliable sources of critical minerals for advanced technologies, as highlighted by former President Trump. Meyer expressed that Pakistan’s mineral potential, if developed responsibly, could benefit both nations.

Meyer’s visit included meetings with key Pakistani officials, such as Prime Minister Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Munir, Minister of Interior Naqvi, and Minister of Petroleum Malik. These discussions aimed to expand opportunities for American businesses in Pakistan and promote deeper economic ties between the two countries. Meyer also underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration on counterterrorism efforts.

In addition to official meetings, Meyer engaged with Pakistani foreign policy experts, American chambers of commerce members, and participants in public diplomacy programs. These interactions were aimed at strengthening the longstanding people-to-people connections between the United States and Pakistan.
