Islamabad: The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad has taken steps to enhance economic relations between the United States and Pakistan through the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) Economic Policy Challenge. This two-day event focused on developing strategies to create a more competitive and globally integrated Pakistani economy.
According to Embassy of the United States of America, the event gathered 70 alumni from Pakistan and six participants from Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. These teams tackled economic policy challenges, including attracting U.S. investment and improving Pakistan’s global economic standing. Their findings were presented to a panel of senior stakeholders.
During the closing ceremony, Andy Halus, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration, drawing parallels with the United States’ history of fostering ingenuity. He highlighted the ongoing Freedom 250 celebrations as a testament to these values. Halus also remarked on the significance of the connections made during the event, encouraging participants to cultivate these relationships into partnerships that benefit both nations.
Halus noted the robust trade relations, citing that bilateral trade surpassed $10 billion last year, with the United States serving as Pakistan’s largest export market. He expressed confidence in the potential for increased American investment based on the recommendations developed during the challenge.
The Chargé extended his gratitude to the event’s organizers, including Accountability Lab Pakistan and the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan, for their roles in facilitating the event.
