Islamabad: The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, together with the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore, marked the 250th anniversary of American independence by illuminating key landmarks in Pakistan’s capital cities. This initiative was part of the Freedom 250 campaign, highlighting the cultural and political ties between the United States and Pakistan.
According to Embassy of the United States of America, from July 1 to July 5, the Pakistan National Monument was lit in the American flag’s colors as a gesture of friendship, coordinated alongside Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Capital Development Authority. In Islamabad, Globe Chowk on Constitution Avenue also featured red, white, and blue lights. Meanwhile, in Lahore, the U.S. Mission facilitated the illumination of Alamgiri Gate, Picture Wall at Lahore Fort, Quaid-e-Azam Library, and the National Institute of Technology.
Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker underscored the significance of the anniversary as a moment to renew and strengthen U.S. institutions and build partnerships with countries like Pakistan. She emphasized the importance of shared values and interests in the evolving bilateral relationship aimed at security and opportunity for future generations.
These illuminations are a part of the year-long Freedom 250 campaign, a global initiative celebrating the Declaration of Independence anniversary. The campaign emphasizes the enduring values of freedom, democracy, and opportunity, reinforcing the U.S.-Pakistan relationship centered on trade, investment, and regional peace.
