ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control convened its 27th meeting on June 9, 2026, at Parliament House, where it discussed several significant legislative and public interest issues. Chaired by Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA, the committee confirmed the minutes from its previous meeting and considered amendments to The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025, as well as other matters.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Minister for Law and Justice briefed the committee on the proposed amendments, highlighting the need for periodic updates to procedural laws to align with technological advancements and modern investigative practices. The Minister emphasized reforms aimed at improving criminal investigations and prosecutions while protecting the rights of victims and accused persons. The committee deferred the Bill for further review during dedicated sessions from June 16 to 18, 2026, allowing thorough examination of its provisions.
The Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented policies related to the non-issuance of third and subsequent passports and the offloading of passengers. The committee was informed of Pakistan’s strategies to combat illegal migration, leveraging advanced data analytics and AI tools. Concerns were raised over legitimate travelers being offloaded, prompting discussions on improving transparency in profiling systems.
In addressing public grievances, the committee disposed of a Calling Attention Notice regarding compensation delays to landowners in Islamabad’s sectors and urged expedited completion of road projects under the Prime Minister’s development package. The committee also mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad to address issues related to an access route blocked by a graveyard project in Pindorian, ensuring public access restoration.
Additionally, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) clarified allegations against former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf concerning a viral video, deeming them unfounded. The meeting was attended by several ministers, MNAs, and senior officers from relevant ministries and agencies, reflecting a comprehensive approach to the discussed issues.
