Srinagar: Security Clampdown Intensifies in IIOJK Ahead of India’s Independence Day

Srinagar: In anticipation of India’s Independence Day on August 15, Indian security forces have escalated their operations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), arresting numerous youths and conducting widespread checks, causing heightened tension and disruption among local residents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, there has been a significant increase in vehicle checks, pedestrian frisking, and random searches across the region, with security personnel deployed extensively throughout various districts. This augmented presence includes a series of cordon and search operations, house raids, and extensive interrogations targeting hundreds of youths in Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla, and other key districts. The security measures, described as oppressive by locals, aim to tighten control in the lead-up to the national holiday but have exacerbated the challenges faced by the Kashmiri populace.
