Srinagar, July 03, 2023 (PPI-OT): As fresh batch of 4,903 pilgrims left the base camp to join the annual pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre high cave shrine in south Kashmir, on Sunday, the Amarnath Yatra has become a militarized pilgrimage since Modi’s ascension to power in India. According to a report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, since the rise of Hindutva politics in India, the numbers of Yatris to Amarnath cave in south Kashmir has rapidly increased.
Started from June 30, Kashmiris will have to deal with increased militarization during the two-month period of Amarnath Yatra, which brings more miseries Kashmiri people in the form of tough restrictions and constant checking and frisking. Besides, the report added, the yatra at large scale has serious environmental impacts for Jammu and Kashmir and the Modi regime is ignoring threats to the IIOJK’s fragile environment.
