Islamabad, The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Islamabad has predicted severe heatwave conditions for most parts of Pakistan, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, from May 21st, escalating further from May 23rd to May 27th. Concurrently, duststorms and thunderstorms with isolated rain are expected in various regions from May 16th to May 19th, impacting daily activities and agricultural operations.
According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will lead to daytime temperatures being 04 to 06°C above normal across several provinces from May 21st to May 23rd, and increasing to 06 to 08°C above normal from May 23rd to May 27th. Additionally, a shallow westerly wave is likely to affect the upper parts of the country starting the evening of May 16th, leading to duststorms and thunderstorms across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, and Sindh.
The weather service has issued advisories for the general public to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and to use water judiciously. Farmers are advised to manage their crops carefully during this period. Authorities are on alert for possible bush and forest fires in vulnerable areas due to the extreme dry conditions.
