Islamabad: Pakistan joined the international community in honoring the United Nations peacekeepers on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, recognizing the bravery and dedication of those serving under the UN flag in conflict zones worldwide. The observance, held annually, emphasizes the vital role of military, police, and civilian peacekeepers in maintaining global peace and security.
According to Press Information Department, this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” highlights the necessity of ongoing political and financial support to foster lasting peace and safeguard human lives globally. The day also marks the inception of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in 1948, the first UN peacekeeping mission in Palestine. Over two million individuals have participated in more than seventy UN peace missions, with Pakistan being a significant contributor since 1960, deploying over 235,000 personnel, including 500 women, across 48 missions.
Pakistan, as the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, takes pride in its peacekeepers’ sacrifices, honoring the 181 Pakistani personnel among the 4,400 UN peacekeepers who have died in service. The nation reiterates its unwavering dedication to enhancing global peace through active involvement in UN missions, underscoring its commitment to international stability and multilateral cooperation.
