Pakistan Commemorates Contributions of UN Peacekeepers on International Day

Islamabad: Pakistan has paid tribute to United Nations peacekeepers worldwide, highlighting its longstanding contributions to international peacekeeping efforts. The nation recognized the service of its peacekeepers, including the 183 Pakistani personnel who have died while serving in UN missions.

According to Press Information Department, Pakistan has been one of the leading contributors to UN peacekeeping operations for over 60 years. More than 270,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have participated in 48 missions across four continents. The growing involvement of Pakistani women in these missions underscores the country’s commitment to the UN Charter’s goals.

Pakistan also hosts the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), one of the oldest UN peacekeeping missions. The presence of UNMOGIP highlights the ongoing international responsibility to seek a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In conflict-affected areas, UN peacekeepers play a crucial role in protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian efforts, and ensuring the continuation of essential services like hospitals and schools. Their presence contributes stability and hope to communities affected by violence and displacement.

Amid global conflict and uncertainty, Pakistan reaffirms its support for UN peacekeeping and expresses solidarity with peacekeepers worldwide striving for peace and security.
