Karachi: The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production, chaired by Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan, directed Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to submit its audit report for 2025-26 within one week and to strengthen its security measures. The committee convened to address theft incidents, security issues, and administrative challenges at the facility.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting included participation from Senators Khalida Ateeb and Danesh Kumar, alongside officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production and PSM. Concerns were raised about the non-submission of the latest audit report, and the committee scrutinized the theft of 36 tons of material from PSM, urging for recovery efforts and strict actions against involved employees.

The committee was briefed on the police’s submission of a challan regarding the theft case, with ongoing administrative and criminal proceedings. Security issues were also highlighted, particularly the withdrawal of DSF personnel from PSM, prompting the need for alternative security arrangements.

With the expansive 1,000-acre site, much of which remains unfenced, the committee noted the shortage of essential security personnel and recommended the installation of modern surveillance cameras. They also emphasized sealing unauthorized access tunnels and addressing encroachments on PSM land, with directives for relevant authorities to be present at upcoming meetings to ensure comprehensive protection and administrative improvements.
