Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has called for a stronger emphasis on skills, innovation, and technology within Pakistan’s higher education system, underscoring the need for academic qualifications to result in meaningful economic opportunities for young people.

According to Press Information Department, Gilani addressed the Beaconhouse International College Convocation at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad, highlighting the need for the country’s expanding higher education sector to equip graduates to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy and global workplace. He emphasized that a degree should be seen as a foundation rather than a destination, urging graduates to continue learning, adapt to technological changes, and develop practical skills.

Gilani noted that advances in Artificial Intelligence, digital technologies, and global connectivity are transforming work, stressing the importance of preparing young people not only for employment but also for roles as entrepreneurs and innovators. With over 60 percent of Pakistan’s population under 30, he described the youth as a major national asset, requiring greater investment in education, skills development, and innovation.

He also called for widening access to quality education, ensuring opportunities for advancement irrespective of socio-economic circumstances, and appreciated initiatives for underserved communities. Congratulating the graduates and their families, he urged them to blend professional excellence with social responsibility, leveraging their knowledge for Pakistan’s development and strengthening international ties.

Gilani expressed hope that the graduates would carry forward their education with confidence and contribute meaningfully to society and the country.
