Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) convened to scrutinize the Draft National Sports Policy 2026, assess the progress of the Long Term Athlete Development Programme (LTADP), and evaluate the Multipurpose Sports Complex project in Faisalabad. Led by Senator Dilawar Khan, the committee emphasized the need for enhanced political accountability and inter-provincial coordination in advancing Pakistan’s sports governance and infrastructure.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee meeting, held at Parliament House, involved detailed briefings by the Secretary IPC and senior officials on initiatives aimed at modernizing the nation’s sporting ecosystem. The committee reiterated the importance of the Minister’s presence in upcoming sessions to address critical national issues, including the ongoing challenges in wheat supply across provinces.

During the meeting, the Draft National Sports Policy 2026 was reviewed, although its discussion was postponed pending input from all provinces. The committee plans to revisit the policy after provincial feedback is integrated. Additionally, the progress of the LTADP, initiated by the Pakistan Sports Board in March 2026, was evaluated. The program aims to transition sports federations to long-term performance plans, and so far, 16 out of 43 National Sports Federations have submitted their plans for review.

The committee also reviewed the Rs. 25.347 million PSDP-funded Multipurpose Sports Complex project in Faisalabad, highlighting procurement details and the qualification of technical bidders. The committee called for efficient execution to benefit the public and stressed the importance of federal oversight and regional collaboration in sports infrastructure development.

The meeting was attended by several senators, including Syed Kazim Ali Shah, Aimal Wali Khan, Rubina Qaim Khani, Abid Sher Ali, and Hidayat Ullah, alongside the Secretary IPC and Pakistan Sports Board officials.
