SECP Approves Shariah-Compliant Digital Financing for Small Businesses

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has approved a new digital platform, Shaamilkar Tajir, which offers Shariah-compliant financing of up to Rs3 million for small businesses. This initiative is aimed at facilitating micro-entrepreneurs by simplifying the process of purchasing inventory from approved suppliers, thereby integrating underserved businesses into the formal credit system.

According to Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the application was developed by SECP-licensed Shaamilkar Financial Services. The platform seeks to enhance access to formal credit for businesses that have been historically underserved. SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu stated that technology-enabled financing could significantly expand credit access while the Commission ensures regulatory oversight and consumer protection.

The approval aligns with the Federal Government’s Access to Finance agenda, particularly for SMEs and other priority sectors. In a related effort, licensed lending NBFCs extended approximately Rs253 billion in loans to micro, small, and medium enterprises between July 2025 and June 2026.
