RSS ban, Gujarat riots, Mughal history to remain in Kerala syllabus

New Delhi, April 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Kerala State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has reportedly decided to reintroduce portions of History that the NCERT has deleted from textbooks of class XI and XII. The decision has been taken by the curriculum committee which recommended that the deleted portions, mainly pertaining to history, should be taught in Kerala. For this, the SCERT has decided that supplementary textbooks should be printed in the state.

The 2002 genocide of Muslims in Gujarat, history of the Mughal empire, contribution of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the ban on Hindutva militant group RSS and portions related to the assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi are among topics removed from NCERT textbooks. NCERT has dropped portions of textbooks from Classes 6 to 12. But the changes for classes up to 10 don’t affect Kerala as the state relies on NCERT textbooks only for Classes 11 and 12. Kerala will prepare special textbooks to teach topics omitted by NCERT. The RSS ban after Gandhi’s assassination, 2002 Gujarat riots, Darwin’s theory and Mughal history will be taught in Kerala schools.
