Islamabad: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has experienced an intensified reign of terror since Prime Minister Narendra Modi rose to power, as reported by Kashmir Media Service. The report highlights the institutionalization of state terrorism in the region, with the aim of quelling the resistance of the Kashmiri people.

The Modi administration has been accused of deploying severe measures to suppress the Kashmiris’ quest for freedom. Fundamental rights in the territory, particularly religious freedoms, have been systematically denied. Notably, Kashmiri Muslims have faced restrictions on offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at significant religious sites such as Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid and Eidgah.

Since August 5, 2019, the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar has repeatedly faced lockdowns and restrictions on prayers. Reports indicate that daily atrocities in IIOJK include cordon and search operations (CASOs), raids, killings, arrests, and religious repression. Since the significant date in 2019, over 980 Kashmiris have been killed by Indian troops, and more than 5,000 individuals, including Hurriyat leaders and activists, remain incarcerated in Indian jails.

The administration led by Modi is perceived to be advancing a Hindutva agenda in the occupied region. Despite the oppressive measures, the spirit of the Kashmiri people in their struggle for freedom remains unbroken. There are calls from various quarters for the international community to hold India accountable for its significant human rights violations in IIOJK.
