Lahore: In a significant move to bolster security, the Punjab government has allocated PKR 520 million to enhance the infrastructure of border and river check posts across various districts. This initiative, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to strengthen the defense against terrorism, smuggling, and other criminal activities.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, detailed the upgrades during a video link meeting focused on the provincial border check posts. Dr. Anwar highlighted that the funds would be used to equip the posts with night vision cameras, bulletproof jackets, helmets, and modern weapons to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the personnel stationed there.
The meeting also addressed the high morale and readiness of the officers to combat any threats. Dr. Anwar emphasized that these enhancements make the border posts a formidable barrier against anti-social elements.
Further discussions in the meeting, attended by DIG Operations Waqas Nazir, DIG Special Protection Unit Muntazir Mehdi, and SSP Usman Bajwa, involved directives to personnel for increased vigilance. DPO Attock Dr. Sardar Ghias Gul Khan and DPO Mianwali Akhtar Farooq, who joined via video link, briefed on the operational challenges and professional matters at the Chashma Check Post in Mianwali and Makhad Check Post in Attock.
This strategic investment underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to maintaining high security standards and protecting the region from potential security threats.
