Juba: In a significant acknowledgment of their efforts, the professionalism and dedication of Pakistani peacekeepers serving in South Sudan have been formally recognized by the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Lieutenant General S Mohan from India. This recognition highlights the critical role played by the Pakistani contingent in maintaining peace and security under the challenging conditions of the region.
According to Inter Services Public Relations, the commendation from the Indian Force Commander was communicated through a letter addressed to Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir. In the letter, Lieutenant General S Mohan praised the Pakistani peacekeepers for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the mission’s objectives. Specifically, the roles of Brigadier Shafqat Iqbal, serving as Sector Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Shahbaz Aslam, serving as Commanding Officer, were highlighted for their exceptional leadership in the field.
The Pakistani contingent has been actively involved in various engineering tasks and operational challenges, particularly in protecting civilians amidst the severe conditions posed by flooding. The peacekeepers worked tirelessly to safeguard over 250,000 internally displaced persons in the most flood-affected areas of South Sudan, demonstrating their commitment to the protection of vulnerable populations.
