Islamabad: Today, Pakistan observes the International Day of Democracy, joining the global community in reaffirming its commitment to the core values of democratic governance, including equality, justice, and freedom. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of these principles in a message underscoring the role of elected representatives in ensuring public welfare.

According to Press Information Department, the Prime Minister emphasized the constitutional framework that governs Pakistan, specifically noting Article 25, which guarantees equal rights and equality before the law. The federal parliamentary system empowers Parliament to legislate in alignment with public interest and Islamic principles. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of adapting laws to meet contemporary demands and ensuring a prosperous future by strengthening democratic values.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring full participation of women and safeguarding minority rights. Reserved seats in both federal and provincial legislatures have been established for women and non-Muslim minorities to guarantee their representation. On an international front, Pakistan is dedicated to fulfilling its global obligations and is actively working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which include the promotion of democracy, peace, and justice.

In his message, Prime Minister Sharif called on the nation to renew its dedication to democratic values, protect fundamental rights, and work towards a prosperous future for Pakistan, reflecting the finest parliamentary traditions.
