Islamabad: On the International Day of Democracy, Pakistan’s President emphasized the nation’s dedication to democratic governance and constitutional order, focusing on the sovereignty and will of the people, equality, freedom, human dignity, justice, the rule of law, and respect for minority views.

According to Press Information Department, the President highlighted that democracy allows citizens to have a meaningful voice in decision-making and holds public authorities accountable. He noted that genuine democracy requires the majority to listen and respect minority rights. Emphasizing democracy’s role in addressing national challenges, he stated that representative institutions and accountable governance are crucial for effective public policy, reducing inequality, and creating opportunities.

The President acknowledged Pakistan’s democratic journey, citing past leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who achieved a democratic milestone with the 1973 Constitution, and Benazir Bhutto, who sacrificed her life for democracy. He called for a renewed commitment to uphold the Constitution, protect fundamental rights, and ensure the participation of women, youth, and minorities. The President underscored the importance of debate and dissent in a living society, asserting that the will of the people should guide the government.
