ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special relief scheme aimed at alleviating the financial strain on the public due to escalating petroleum prices. This initiative comes in response to global oil price increases triggered by ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

According to Radio Pakistan, the relief scheme will provide users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, and vehicles up to 800cc with a reduction of one hundred rupees per litre on petrol. Specifically, motorcycle, rickshaw, and Qingqi users will receive the relief on up to twenty litres of petrol per month, while owners of small cars up to 800cc will benefit from the discount on up to thirty litres per month.

The implementation of the scheme is scheduled to begin in the Islamabad Capital Territory on the night between Monday and Tuesday. It will then be rolled out to other regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. Registration for the scheme commenced today, with details about the registration process to be provided to the public through an awareness campaign.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting citizens amid the rising oil prices and expressed gratitude to the provinces for their cooperation in providing necessary vehicle registration information.
