Prime Minister Orders Restructuring of Livestock and Dairy Development Board

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives for the restructuring of the Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) during a high-level meeting focused on the livestock sector. The board, established in 2007, is tasked with promoting livestock breeding and boosting milk and meat production in Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to transform the board into an efficient organization by integrating private sector expertise. He called for a swift presentation of a revamping plan and proposed utilizing imported livestock from bonded warehouses for value-addition processes. The enhanced meat and dairy products are to be exported.

Sharif also highlighted the role of the private sector in advancing the livestock industry and announced the Federal Government’s intention to set up a national plant for producing modern livestock vaccines at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC). A strategy for the plant’s establishment is expected within a week.

The meeting included discussions on ongoing reforms to boost the sector’s exports. It was revealed that a third-party audit of slaughterhouses has begun, and efforts are underway to produce DRAP-approved purified livestock vaccines domestically. Plans are also in motion to create dedicated bonded warehouses for imported livestock.
