Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a call from King Charles III today, during which he was invited to the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation, marking the event as a significant milestone since it will be the first CHOGM chaired by King Charles III as the Head of the Commonwealth.
According to Press Information Department, King Charles III reached out to express his formal invitation personally. This gesture highlights the ongoing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom within the framework of the Commonwealth. During the conversation, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to the Commonwealth and its charter, emphasizing the summit as an opportunity to enhance cooperation among member countries on critical issues such as sustainable development, democracy, and youth empowerment.
The Prime Minister also expressed his anticipation for discussions on climate change, a subject of mutual interest given King Charles’s well-known environmental advocacy and Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate-related challenges.
