Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to global peace on the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. In messages released on this occasion, both leaders emphasized the country’s ongoing dedication to international peacekeeping efforts.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari expressed solidarity with United Nations peacekeepers worldwide, honoring the 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who have died in service. He highlighted Pakistan’s hosting of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) as a testament to the international community’s responsibility to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his separate message, underscored Pakistan’s enduring contribution to international peace and security. He noted the country’s alignment with multilateral principles and paid tribute to those serving under the United Nations flag. This year’s observance, themed “Invest in Peace,” emphasizes the necessity of sustained political and financial support for global peace and the protection of human lives.
